It was a calm February morning, the green and yellow kayak which could seat
two people was ready and waiting for me on the Kizhunna Ezhara beach on the
Arabian sea which covers the entire coast of Kerala and well known for its
unexpected swells and generally rocky waves but for some reason it was eerily
quiet like the sea was still asleep.

I took the bright red colored life jacket and put it on, all the while having
second thoughts whether i should move on with this or not. All those
movies about surfing and water sports made me excited every time i watched
them, hoping maybe one day ill be able to try out these sports and go out to the
sea and be happy like all those people I’ve seen on television.
So i started out to the sea in the kayak thanks to my stay at Chera Rocks Beach
House along with my instructor whose name was “Baiju” who kept giving out
tips to kayaking while we were getting into the sea and half praying that i didn’t
drown. And so we got on the kayak adjusted ourselves and started paddling, i
had a basic knowledge of paddling a kayak thanks to you tube so it wasn’t that
hard for me but still watching it and actually doing it is quite different. Baiju
told me that if i was lucky i might get to see some dolphins and that got my
hopes high.

Anyway my first time in a kayak was disappointing since I couldn’t see any
dolphins or click a selfie with them *sighs* :( but i got to see some pretty
amazing birds which are exclusive to this area and in my opinion this place is
a birdwatchers paradise because of the innumerable birds i saw during my stay
at Chera Rocks Beach House. So Me and Baiju got to see some fishes diving in
and out of the water right in front of our kayak and it suddenly reminded me of
the scene from the movie “TITANIC” where the dolphins were diving in the
water next to the titanic, anyways coming back to reality i saw some of the
fishermen wearing some special equipment wading out to the rocks and upon
my asking baiju told me that it was required, since these people pluck
mussels from the rocks and the rocks are quite slippery as well as sharp as
a dagger and safety was a big concern among them that they use special
goggles and suits while doing their business.

Once we got further out to sea it suddenly became very quiet like everything
just faded away and there wants even the sound of the breeze that we usually
hear on beach sides, i turned the kayak towards the shore and it just took my
breath away for a second.
